The Carolynn Parke Memorial Fund was established to honour the legacy of Carolynn (1950-2006), FLAP’s co-founder. All gifts received in Carolynn’s memory will directly support her lifelong passion: bird rescue and rehabilitation.

Carolynn's Contributions to FLAP

Carolynn recognized the need for injured birds to receive immediate, holistic rehabilitation. She single-handedly designed and built Wingspread—an adaptive bird rehabilitation centre—in her own home, just outside of Pickering, and added an outdoor aviary in her backyard to care for our injured birds.

Carolynn excelled in every role she tackled at FLAP. She served as President of the Board, Board Director, mentor for new volunteers, leader of volunteer training, bird rescuer, diligent researcher, meticulous record keeper, and as an important liaison with veterinarians, in particular, Dr. Janet Sawyer.

Research Initiatives

Through her own initiative and research efforts, Carolynn gained expertise in the rescue and rehabilitation of FLAP's injured birds. She combined traditional treatments with homeopathic remedies and found that this approach offered the best result for the successful recovery of injured birds. She documented each case as firm evidence of the effectiveness of this treatment.

Because of Carolynn’s dedicated care at Wingspread, hundreds of birds that might not have survived otherwise were able to continue on their migration journeys and create new families.

You Can Help With Wildlife Conservation

Carolynn's knowledge, initiative, and encouragement remain invaluable gifts to our birds and to our organization. Help us carry forward with Carolynn’s vision for the compassionate care, treatment, release and conservation of our beautiful migratory birds.
