My pledge for birds: Adopting bird-friendly building design requirements in Ontario

Canada and the world face the dual crises of biodiversity loss and climate change and these crises must be solved together. Addressing the causes of biodiversity loss involves adapting how we build and grow by implementing evidence-based solutions for issues associated with new development, such as preventing wild birds from colliding with windows on new building construction. Bird-window collisions kill an estimated 25 million birds per year in Canada and represent a leading cause of preventable bird deaths.

I will support Ontario adopting province-wide requirements for new building construction to adopt methods for reducing the risk of bird-window collisions, by incorporating a bird-friendly building design standard into the Ontario Building Code.
